Whether you are adults on a walking holiday or families looking for adventure, there are lots of things to keep you busy here in the Cerne Valley. Why not try one of the activities below?
Go Walking
The glorious countryside of the Cerne Valley attracts visitors because of its varied and fascinating history and scenic beauty.The well known and picturesque Wessex Ridgway lies to the north of Cerne Abbas.
Cerne Abbas is an excellent centre for walking, attracting many visitors every year.

Please remember that the Valley is a working agricultural area and there are shoots at certain times of the year. The Countryside Code must be observed.
Go Cycling
There many opportunities for cycling. Although some of the major roads may have occasional heavy traffic, many side roads are relatively quiet where you can enjoy a day out. However, be ready for some steep climbs as well!
Local Markets
Visit one of Dorset’s many local markets. You can find a wonderful selection of foods from our farmers markets, as well as a range of gifts, clothes, toys, fabrics, memorabilia and much more.
Countryside Sports
Sea fishing
The Dorset coast is never more than an easy drive away and there are many opportunities for sea fishing. Visit iCoast for more information. Coarse fishing is also available just a few miles to the north of Cerne Abbas.
Lyons Gate Fishing
There are four lakes situated in the centre of the Lyons Gate Caravan Park & Fishery. Each lake is well stocked with a range of fish. Fishing runs on a day ticket scheme.
Golf
Dorset has many golf facilities in fantastic locations for all levels of ability.
The nearest course is at Charminster where you can find challenging terrain and friendly people.
Sports Centres
There are two Sports Centres in easy reach of the Valley. The 1610 Centre at Dorchester provides a complete fitness and swimming facility.
The Sport Centre in Sherborne has a heated indoor 25 metre swimming pool which provides a variety of swimming sessions.
