The members of popular chamber
choir Cantamus return to Cerne Abbas in early December to perform their Advent
programme.
Cantamus programmes bring together music from across several centuries,
creating the perfect showcase for the choir’s thoughtful, well-blended singing
under the baton of musical director Peter Nardone.
The concert opens with Hodie Christus natus est by 17th century Dutch composer
Sweelinck and continues with Panis Angelicus by Rebelo, Christus factus est by
Bruckner and Abendlied by Rheinberger. The first half also includes works by two
living composers – In the stillness by Sally Beamish and O magnum mysterium
by Jonathan Lane – as well as Benjamin Britten’s well-known Balulalow from the
Ceremony of Carols. After the interval the audience will
hear three tradidional pieces: The
Angel Gabriel arranged by Malcolm
Archer; Angelus ad virginem
arranged by Andrew Carter; and
Masters in this hall arranged by the
choir’s regular accompanist, Steve
Kinnersly. The choir will also sing the
joyful Benedicamus Domino by Peter
Warlock, Sir Christemas by William
Mathias, O radiant dawn by James
Macmillan – and more!
Tickets £12 from Cerne Abbas Village Stores or on the door.
