Special Events

Christmas Street Fair

Started only in 2012, this ran successfully for three years but was suspended in 2015. Long Street was closed for a wonderful array of stalls selling locally produced foods, Christmas gifts and hot food and drink.    Look at the website for more details. Also see a short video of the event here. For 2015 and 2016, the Christmas Fayre was hosted by Casterbridge Manor. For 2017 the Fayre  returned to Long Street and was held on Saturday 2 December. A truly festive start to the Cerne Valley Christmas season.

Open Gardens

One weekend every June, private gardens in Cerne Abbas are opened to the public.  This event, which has been a fixture since 1974, attracts hundreds of visitors.  The proceeds go to charities chosen by the garden openers.  Open Gardens have their own website for details of next year’s Open Gardens. This will help you organise your trip to see and enjoy some beautiful private gardens.

Minterne Spring Fair

This is held on the second Sunday in May each year. A celebration of local arts and crafts held on the lawns of Minterne House.

Music Festival

In 1990, Richard Hosford, leader of the Gaudier Ensemble, and resident of Dorset had a vision of a Music Festival different from the standard commercial model.  He chose St Mary’s Church in Cerne Abbas because of the excellent acoustics of the Church in an attractive setting, but also because of the village and its community.  The internationally acclaimed musicians of the Ensemble come together for a week to perform the music they want to play, always at the highest artistic standards. He also wanted to provide accessible music to the people of Dorset and create a stimulating environment for local young musicians and children -and this he has achieved.  The Festival celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2015.  For details of the Festival for 2018, why not look at its website?
